Welcome to Team Lurie
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs including the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. The features of TSC that most strongly impact quality of life are often associated with the brain such as seizures, developmental delay, intellectual disability and autism.
The Lurie Children’s Epilepsy Multidisciplinary TSC Clinic’s goal is to provide quality care to individuals with TSC, manage research that will contribute to better treatment and a cure for TSC, and provide a complete medical team to coordinate treatment for all aspects of TSC.
When the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance (TS Alliance) was formed in 1974, the vision of the founders was to fund research into how the disease occurs, identify better treatments and hopefully find a cure. New treatments and new drugs specific to TSC have been approved to shrink brain and kidney tumors and to treat epilepsy. But so much more needs to be done for families and individuals who have lived with TSC for decades, watched their loved ones deteriorate and still desperately need answers.
