Welcome to Team Jack's Angels! (Jack and Kathy Kingston)
Hello! Jack and I would love for you to join Team “Jack’s Angels” and participate with us as we Step Forward to Cure TSC on Saturday morning, October 5, 2019 at Kellogg Zaher Park. Bring your Super Hero outfits and walk 0.5 or 1.5 miles with us on a lovely and safe path through the park as we fundraise for the TS Alliance, which is dedicated to finding a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) while improving the lives of those affected.
TSC is a genetic disease where cellular growth is not controlled, causing tumors to form in major organs, such as the brain, heart, skin, kidneys and lungs. The tumors are not cancerous; however, they are quite mischievous. They frequently cause epilepsy, autism, cognitive impairment, and a host of other potential maladies including kidney, lung failure, and death.
The TS Alliance sponsors important ground breaking medical research that has already saved and improved lives, and provides valuable information and support for families, children, and people who have TSC. The breakthroughs that are made with research on TSC are important for understanding other more common diseases that are also affected by the TSC genes which lie at the heart of a biochemical network that is disrupted in many common human diseases and health conditions.
TSC has been determined to be what’s known as a lynchpin disease, because it affects so many body systems and has a characteristic of many other diseases. Therefore, if you unlock the cure to TSC you could unlock the cure to other diseases.
Most of us know someone affected by cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, Lupus, and Parkinson’s.
TSC research is giving insights into these conditions and more. TSC is linked to cancer in that “… the biochemical network that the TSC genes control is also rendered dysfunctional in over 50% of human cancers … and underlies tumor development in these settings. The study of TSC is improving our understanding and treatment of cancer.”
We are finalizing the entertainment details for the walk, but we will have fun, family activities as well as the walk.
While registration for the event is free, we hope folks can raise any amount of money. If folks raise $100 then they get a walk T-shirt for this year.
If you can ask 5 friends for a donation of $20, or 10 friends for a donation of $10, or 20 friends for a donation of $5, we would be grateful!
Below gives just a small sample of how donations to the TS Alliance make a difference.
How Your Gift Makes a Difference
$122.00 Provides the magazine Perspective to 100 families, which offers updates on clinical trials, events, resources and contacts.
$234.00 Pays for a professional advocate's help for parents to develop an individualized education plan for a child with TSC.
$312.00 Enrolls an individual with TSC in a natural history study enabling researchers to understand the progression of TSC over lifetime.
$750.00 Pays the costs of one local community education meeting or family gathering.
$1,074.00 Underwrites 9 conference calls per year, providing direct access to specialty physicians and researchers on several topics to help answer questions and empower adults living with TSC.
$1,750.00 Helps cover transportation costs to enable 6 children to participate in an autism research study.
$2,512.00 Pays for two weeks of one researcher working to uncover early indicators that identify which newborns may develop infantile spasms, a devastating form of epilepsy.
Please join us for a family fun event that supports important medical research as well as advocacy for all needs that a family has when a loved one has TSC.
Thank you for your time and your help! We are grateful!

We are participating in the Step Forward to Cure TSC walk. We choose to fight for the 1 in 6,000 kids born with TSC every day…50,000 in the U.S…over 1 million worldwide. TSC is more common than Lou Gehrig’s disease and Cystic Fibrosis. And there is no cure. Yet!
Ours is a story of determination. Our stunningly small group of parents, through sheer will and passion, have brought this disease to the brink of a breakthrough. We are joined in our fight by aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, grandparents and friends, co-workers and colleagues. We’re asking you to join us in the fight to find a cure! Please help support our family who have refused to give up, refused to take no for an answer, even when faced with the daily challenges of seizures, autism, ADHD, facial disfiguration, anxiety, behavioral problems, and medical complications.
We’re making HUGE strides in finding a cure for TSC. Here’s what we know now that we didn’t know just two short years ago: TSC is what’s called a “linchpin” disease. The genetic pathway involved in TSC is the same pathway affecting over a dozen major diseases and disorders, including autism, epilepsy, cancer, and obesity. We’ve got a long way to go, but recent clinical trials of a new drug actually show the symptoms of autism disappearing in mice. We’re in a race against time and our resources are strained beyond their limits!
Please support our fight by joining us and helping to break the back of this horrific disorder. You can register to join us or make a donation securely by clicking the donate button on this page.
Many, many thanks!
