2018 TCS New York City Marathon!
On Sunday, November 4, 2018, I will be running the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon with Team TSC and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance! Team TSC is a dedicated group of people who are running on behalf of the 50,000 people in the US and 1 million worldwide with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). TSC is a genetic disorder that causes non-malignant tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. TSC is also the leading known genetic cause of epilepsy and autism. And there is no cure. Yet!
One of those kids affected with TSC is my favorite little person, Charlie. Since the day Charlie was born, he has gone through multiple surgeries, has seen lots of doctors, and has taken dozens of different medications. Now at the age of 7, Charlie still struggles to do everyday things. Although he struggles, it doesn't stop him from running, swimming, learning, playing with his trucks and trains, and cheering on the New York Mets! Charlie is a fighter and lights up every room he walks into. He is my inspiration for this race and everyday.
I’m running because we’re making huge strides in finding a cure for TSC. Today, because of very early research, there are currently two FDA-approved indications for TSC in the United States—one for the treatment of brain tumors and the other for the treatment of kidney tumors common in TSC. In 2016, the TS Alliance supported TSC Clinical Research Consortium launched the first preventative clinical trial in epilepsy and TSC in the United States. This monumental undertaking would have been unthinkable only a few years ago, but because of the dedication and tenacity of our community we continue to redefine what’s possible.
Please support our fight by joining me and helping to rewrite the future for everyone with this disorder. Your donation today inspires hope and empowers us to look forward to a time in the near future when no one has to endure the devastating effects of TSC.
Any contribution you can make towards my run would be most gratefully appreciated. I am excited(and nervous) to be running and cannot wait for November.
